The City maintains a contract with American Fork for public safety services. This includes law enforcement, paramedic, and fire services. American Fork increases these costs yearly to accommodate inflation, population growth, cost of supplies, etc. Typically, the City’s accumulative sales tax (which trends between $15,000 to $30,000) is used to cover these yearly public safety fee increases. However, this year’s increase was significantly more than the City anticipated (over $800,000.) The City budget needed almost $300,000 in fees or taxes to cover this increase. Because of this, the City Council has approved reinstating a monthly $9 public safety fee. This will reflect on July’s utility bill.
