Cedar Hills residents will see an increase on their sewer usage fees.

The City strives to have a lean, competent staff to help minimize overall increased costs to provide services to residents. Unfortunately, inflationary pressures on operations and capital maintenance are currently impacting entities, which the City relies on for essential services like water supplies, and sewer treatment.

North Utah County's sewer treatment facility--Timpanogos Special Service District (TSSD) is required by the State of Utah and current volume constraints to make rehabilitation improvements and capacity improvements to their facilities. The TSSD board anticipates three significant increases for all users. The first increase of $1.23 per 1,000 gallons of water used takes effect January 1, 2024. TSSD’s board expects two future user fee increases in the next few years to fund all improvements related to the current capital facilities plan. TSSD’s board significantly increased impact fees for new sewer connections to pay for capacity improvements. Cedar Hills began leasing water shares with Central Utah Water Conservancy District in 1997. Since 2007, Cedar Hills has the right to 710-acre ft of water. Cedar Hills funded access and maintenance of this water with the monthly $4.95 CUP fee. The CUP fee has now merged with the pressurized irrigation (P.I.) base rate fee. $12.05 in monthly fees have shifted from the P.I. usage rate to the P.I. base rate for each allocation since the city’s irrigation costs are over 90% fixed and operations vary only a little based on usage. Eventually usage rates will be based on actual water use instead of estimated usage. Usage fees will remain flat until P.I. users have P.I. meters and time to review their monthly water allocation and usage through the utility statement and/or WaterSmart app.

Pleasant Grove (PG) Irrigation company water shares increased their fees significantly for improvements and maintenance, so $1.50 in monthly fees are added to the new P.I. base rate to cover PG’s increase. PG water shares and CUP water shares along with city wells provide the irrigation water expected by users. See the utility fee table for a summary of the changes.
