Additionally, one of the backboards on the basketball standards was shattered. The damages total well over $1,000. New Utility Rates
The fiscal year 2011 budget was approved on June 1, along with several necessary rate changes. The largest rate increase, sewer fees, is the direct result of rate increases created by the City’s contracted provider, Timpanogos Special Service District (TSSD). TSSD increased their fees by 27 percent. This increase is not exclusive to Cedar Hills and affects every City in the district (i.e. Alpine, Highland, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Lindon, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, etc.). A new fee of $1.95 has also been added to the utility bill for paramedic services. This increase enables the City to continue to provide the highest level of paramedic services to its residents. These services are provided by the Lone Peak Public Safety District, which has increased their fees to Cedar Hills by almost 80 percent. The rate changes will be effective July 1, 2010. The City’s complete fee schedule, as well as answers to frequently asked questions about utility rates, is available on the City’s Web site. Click here for more information.
UTA announces “The Lift” bus service
UTA has introduced a new flexible route service, the F868 American Fork/Alpine Lift, with on-demand capabilities and a connection at the Cedar Hills Walmart. If scheduled at least two hours in advance, this bus (for $1) will deviate from its course up to 3/4 of a mile to pick up passengers at an arranged location. The route runs to the American Fork Park & Ride lot and the American Fork Smith’s. Visit www.rideuta.com for a schedule of bus stop locations, routing, and times of service. Call 888-743-3882 with questions.
GreenFiber Recycling
For residents who do not have curbside recycling toters, the City provides a GreenFiber collection dumpster, located behind the City building, for catalogs, phone books, office paper, junk mail, and broken-down cardboard boxes. If it will fit in the chutes, they’ll take it. The City may lose the dumpster if more of this material is not disposed there. The City receives a small revenue each month based on the weight of the material, and it is a convenient way to recycle. Thanks for your help. Free Landfill Passes
Each household may receive two passes per year from the City office to the North Pointe Solid Waste Special Service District (2000 West 200 South, Lindon). The following items are not permitted at the dump: commercial or building debris, liquids, or hazardous waste. Questions about hours of operation, etc., can be directed to the landfill at 801-225-8538.

Special events ordinance enacted
There’s a new law in town. Organizers of events, such as block parties held on a street, craft fairs and the like, will need to fill out an application with the City, pay a $100 fee, and show insurance. The application must be filed with the City 60 days before the event, and the applicant cannot advertise the event until the application is approved. The new special events ordinance provides a framework for the City to allow residents and organizations to stage events on public property. The council said this ordinance is needed because it sets rules on how and when event organizers can affect the flow of traffic and other public rights. Residents do not need an application for getting together as groups or families, but if the rights of others are going to be disrupted, the ordinance must be followed. Complete the Special Events Application and submit it to the City office.
North Utah County Library Cooperative
The cities of American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, and Eagle Mountain have agreed to participate in a reciprocal borrowing system that will allow library card holders at any of the cooperating libraries to check out materials from all four libraries. (This is not a county library system.) Library borrowers are encouraged to search for needed materials at their home library before searching the other libraries’ online catalogs. Each library will continue to function as it currently does in terms of policies, budget, administration, non-resident card fees, etc. Requests (holds) made to a library other than the home library will not be honored. The intent is to allow card holders of each library first access to the materials at that library.
American Fork City Arts Council
The AFAC invites Cedar Hills residents to participate in their arts events and performances. Click here for more information.
